YOUR SKIN IS A TOP PRIORITY!

Picture
People always ask me "Nelia, how do you keep your skin so clear?" and honestly it's a difficult question to answer. Mainly, I drink so much water I should be a fish. Believe it or not, it helps detox your skin! However, I do have a decent skin care routine though. I must add, everyone's skin is different! Some people have oily skin, dry skin, or a mix of the two depending on the day &that's okay but my famous line is "you have to find what works for you".
You cant follow my routine and then freak out if it don't work for you! My skin is oily some days, dry others &it even gets patchy from time to time. Its the strangest thing but I've learned to work with my skin and what it needs on different days. It changes like my attitude honestly.

My Tips :

  • If you wear makeup daily, WASH YOUR FACE before bed! -This will help unclog them pores sweetie!
  • On my dry days I avoid makeup and instead MOISTURIZE.
  • On oily days, I wash my face with something light before starting the day. Try this before applying your makeup as well
  • Go natural sometimes! Makeup is cool &I'm not knocking it but you should let your skin breathe from time to time.
  • Have at least one exfoliating day a week to help clean your pores and remove dead skin but you shouldn't be stripping your face daily.
  • Avoid using harsh washes and scrubs on a daily. Natural products are always best especially on your face but even they really only need to be used a few times a week!
  • TAKE YOUR VITAMINS BOO! B-12, Biotin, Collagen, Hair Skin &Nails, whichever just take them!
  • Be mindful that many things play a role in your skins appearance. From what you eat down to what you stress about. It wont be perfect all the time!
  • Be patient w yourself and your skins healing process.
  • DRINK WATER!

My Routine:

I exfoliate twice a week. Sunday and Thursday are my "self care" days. I usually follow my routine before bed and still rinse my face with warm water in the morning. I start by removing any makeup with coconut oil or witch hazel. Then I use my own face scrub I make at home and use a exfoliating brush. You can use a scrubbing pad or glove. It doesn't have to be something heavy unless you feel like its necessary for your skin. I follow up w a mix of my favorite essential oils. Depending on which ones you buy, you may need to dilute them w/ water. I usually mix a few of my favorites together, depending on what i need them for and then dilute them.

So Lets Break That Down A Bit..

Recipes can be great, for people who have time. I'm a recipe kind of person myself but not its everyday I have time to follow one. So I like to think of basic components - protein, fruit &veggie and grain. One pot soups or casseroles are your best friend!

For Soups
- choose a protein such as beans, meat / seafood, chickpeas, lentils, tofu or tempeh. Add veggies, herbs and spices, broth stock or water. You can add in a grain like noodles, or serve it with a whole grain bread on the side. *This is a great way to use produce before it spoils btw.

For Casseroles - The same concept as making a soup but instead of broth add a sauce and bake this dish in the oven.

For One Pot Meals - Usually prepared in a crock pot or slow cooker. Simply add components such as frozen chicken breasts, a jar of salsa, corn and rice or black beans. Set the time & go!

Try Out This Yummy Simple Snack Recipe.

3 Sliced Red Apples
3 Sliced Green Apples
The Juice Of 1/2 Lemon
Agave Or Honey To Taste (I Use 1 Tablespoon)
Sliced, Crushed Or Whole Almonds
Coconut Flakes
Mix, Chill &Enjoy.

Focus on Behavior

For children behavior is a form of communication. This means everything they do is motivated by an underlying feeling or need. When our children don't want to participate in certain activities such as cleaning up or getting ready to rest, let them know we understand why and offer a solution that works for both of you.
TRY THIS:
"I see you are frustrated that it's time to clean up. You are having so much fun with those blocks and you're not ready to put them away. Lets build one more tower, then we will put the blocks away."

Focus On Play

You can still interact with your child while juggling other tasks.
TRY THIS:
Set your child up with an activity to do while you work on your own tasks. Make it something that still allows you to see and talk to them. Although you'll be multi tasking, be sure to make eye contact and use specific language so they know you really are paying attention.
Use opening phrases like "I see you ...are putting all the blue blocks in a square." or "Now you are ...using the red blocks to build a tower."
This lets them know you are watching and interested.

Focus On Routine

Children thrive when they know what is expected of them right now and what's going to happen next. Knowing what's going to happen next is a great motivator to get through the task at hand.
TRY THIS :

"First we brush our teeth, then we get dressed for our day."
"First we put the blocks in the basket, then we can pick a book to read."

Focus On Environment

You can use pictures to help your child remember his or her daily routines. If printing pictures is something unavailable to you, you can help your child draw pictures of their routines.
TRY THIS :
Take or draw pictures of them brushing their teeth or eating breakfast. Getting dressed for the day or cleaning up their toys. Together you can create a visual schedule to remember what's coming next in their day.
Picture

Focus On Mindfulness

Deep breaths help all of us feel calm and centered. Making deep breathing fun for children is a great way to get them into the habit.
TRY THIS:
Using pictures or real items, practice taking a deep breath and blowing out the air hard by "smelling a flower or blowing a leaf into the air." Ask how deep they have had to breath to smell the flower or how hard they had to blow to get the leaf to move.
Picture

Talking To Young Children

Use Positive Statements: Tell children what they CAN do instead of what they cant do.
Give Simple Instruction: To many instructions at once can be overwhelming and confusing.
Model "I" Messages: Use language that expresses your feelings and the reasons behind them.
Ask Open Ended Questions: Talk to children, not at them. Ask open-ended questions that allow children to to explain their thought processes and stay curious.
Offer choices you can live with: Give children a choice whenever possible, but be ready to honor their decisions.

Picture

Support Your Child's Learning

  • Acknowledge and accept all of your child's feelings and emotions.
This allows your child to feel secure when sharing their feelings.
  • Describe what you see your child doing rather than just saying "good job".
They want to know you see and appreciate their efforts.
  • Help your child make connections to familiar experiences or information.
When your child is having a moment of pickiness, explain to them that trying new things can help them find other things that they love to eat.
  • Use words that help build your child's vocabulary.
"This ice cream is delicious. It has a creamy texture."
  • Repeat and extend thing your child says to you.
If he or she is looking at a book &says "I like lizards," you might say "I know you do. what do you like about them?"

Affirmations Are My Best Friend!

Picture

When I started using affirmations I didn't think they could be so powerful. I think we all lack recognizing the power of our words sometimes. We are spelling when we speak. We speak things into existence daily. Good and bad. Intentionally and unintentionally. We need to remember the power of our words and intentions &start using them to be better and do better.

Practice speaking affirmations allowed before, during and even at the end of your day.

START YOUR DAY W SOME CONFIDENCE!

I honor who I am.
know whats best for me &whats not.
The love I have for myself is unmatched. Nobody fcks with me harder than i fck w myself!
I refused to settle for less than I'm worth. I am worthy of living in the overflow at all times.
I deserve everything it is that my heart desires.
If i put the work in to manifest it, then anything i want is mine.
I am speaking and believing my way into a new chapter.
Anything and everything is possible for me.

When you need a gentle reminder.

I honor who I am.
I see everything with beauty and color.
My life is filled with an abundance of goodness.
I'm thankful to be living another day.
I am grateful to have excellent health, prosperity and true love.
Whats mine is mine. Whats for me will always be for me.
I have limitless potential. I will achieve greatness.

Every Night..

I honor who I am.
I am proud of myself!
I offered my best self today.
I am looking forward to a new morning.
Today is now in my past and I will let it stay there.
It's time to allow my body, mind and spirit to rest.
I have the power to make tomorrow phenomenal.
My day begins and ends with gratitude and joy.

Anxiety Affirmations!

I have total control over my mind.
I will get through this as i do every time.
Take deep breaths.
My anxiety does not define me.
This will soon pass. What I am experiencing is only temporary.
I have the power to control my anxiety.
This is not forever to constant.
I am not my anxiety.
I honor who I am.

Picture

Getting Through The Moment..

Feel the feeling but don't become the emotion. Witness it. Allow it. Release it.
Fighting this feeling wont help, i'll relax and allow it to pass.
I stay present and ground myself in this moment.
I am okay, my anxiety isn't always rational.
I tune into my body and release tension from my muscles.
I am stronger than i give myself credit for. I always survive this.
Anxiety is normal. It tells me its time to use my coping strategies.
I honor who I am.

When I'm Having An Attack, this mantra helps me breathe through it every time!

Samhain / Halloween

Read Now

What Is Samhain vs Halloween ?

Samhain translates to "summers-end".

The word "Halloween" comes from "All Hallows' Eve" and means "hallowed evening."
Do you know the difference between Halloween and Samhain?

Samhain marks a time of year when seasons change and harvests come to their end. All old, unwanted things come to their end! Time to ready yourself for the new things to come. It is also said that during Samhain the "veil" between ours and the spirit world would be blurred allowing us to connect with our passed loved ones. This is where Halloween gains its "haunted" connotation. Samhain was a time when people would light big bonfires, feast on the last harvest and even dress up as their future or more higher selves (like witches or gods and goddesses). Over time, Christianity took over the holiday and the pagan undertones of this holiday were lessened and more modernized. The rituals and more spiritual celebrations eventually turned into more lighthearted fun and games. In the eighth century, November 1st was recognized as a time to honor all saints. Then soon, All Saints Day adopted some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before Samhain was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, wearing costumes and eating yummy candy.
Picture
My typical celebration would involve making a yummy autumn dinner and inviting family and friends over to celebrate new comings, while also remembering our passed loved ones.  Then after everyone leaves I do a small, private meditation. Involving things like candles, fallen leaves, gourds and/or pumpkins, photos of any loved ones who have passed, my crystals and sage.. Sorry to be disappointing to some, but Satanism is not on the agenda. Some have made Samhain to be about something it is not. I mean really, for all the darkness, ghosts and evil talk, Samhain, like all Wiccan holidays, is most firmly rooted in the natural world, and in natural processes. Death is a natural thing, and this holiday is the time when we acknowledge and honor its place in our lives.

Picture
This time of year is specifically for thinking about the cycle of life, death and rebirth. Its not just about trick or treating and dressing up. Samhain is the witches New Year. It's considered the first turn in the Wheel of the Year &it's a very powerful time!
Say goodbye to harvest and welcome "the darker half of the year".

Meditation

Lets start w/ the fact that there are so many forms of meditation &so many reasons to do it!

Meditation to me..
I believe meditation creates a sense of calm and inner harmony. Meditation is less about faith and more about altering consciousness, finding awareness, and achieving peace.

Six popular types of meditation practice:
mindfulness meditation
spiritual meditation
focused meditation
movement meditation
mantra meditation
transcendental meditation

How do you know which practice is right for you?
  • Mindfulness meditation is good for people who don’t have a teacher to guide them, as it can be easily practiced alone.
  • Spiritual meditation is beneficial for those who thrive in silence and seek spiritual growth.
  • Focused meditation is ideal for anyone who requires additional focus in their life.
  • Movement meditation is good for people who find peace in action and prefer to let their minds wander.
  • Mantra meditation is for people who don’t like silence and enjoy repetition.
  • Transcendental meditation is for those who like structure and are serious about maintaining a meditation practice.

There are literally so many ways to practice mediation. If one way doesn't work for you, know you have options! Try something else &find what works for you!
In mindfulness meditation, you pay attention to your thoughts as they pass through your mind. You don’t judge the thoughts or become involved with them. You simply observe and take note of any patterns. This practice combines concentration with awareness. You may find it helpful to focus on an object or your breath while you observe any bodily sensations, thoughts, or feelings.
Picture
Spiritual meditation is similar to prayer in that you reflect on the silence around you and seek a deeper connection with your God or Universe.
Focused meditation involves concentration using any of the five senses. For example, you can focus on something internal, like your breath, or you can bring in external influences to help focus your attention. Try counting mala beads, listening to a gong, or staring at a candle flame. If your mind does wander, it’s important to come back to the practice and refocus.
Movement meditation practice may include walking through the woods, gardening, qigong, and other gentle forms of motion. It’s an active form of meditation where the movement guides you.
Mantra meditation uses a repetitive sound to clear the mind. It can be a word, phrase, or sound, such as the popular “Om.” It doesn’t matter if your mantra is spoken loudly or quietly. After chanting the mantra for some time, you will be more alert and in tune with your environment. This allows you to experience deeper levels of awareness.
Transcendental meditation is the most popular
type of meditation around the world, and it’s the most scientifically studied. This practice is more customizable than mantra meditation, using a mantra or series of words that are specific to each practitioner.
Start here. Find your practice. Get comfortable w it &then branch out!
Peace & Love!

“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes every day — unless you're too busy. Then you should sit for an hour.”

Ladies, I want to talk about everything we don't talk about!
Picture
Yes, our beautiful reproductive system! &I'm getting straight to the point!
How many of you beauties deal with BV, yeast infections, UTI's or even other issues like cysts or oh my personal favorite, sensitivity to EVERYTHING?!
How many of you actually talk about it?
How many of you know how to properly care for these issues?
How many of you rely on harsh chemicals for relief?
Well STOP!
Stop doing that to your body! Stop NOT talking about it!
This is our beauty ladies! Our body is a beautiful thing!
Don't be ashamed to embrace what we have as woman. We all face these things!
GRL PWR!
WE ARE QUEENS!
As a woman, I'm not afraid to share with you that I myself am VERY prone to these things!
Iv literally been dealing with everything that can possibly go wrong down there for as long as I can remember! From ovarian cysts all the way to BV &UTI's. I myself was ashamed. I'll admit that. I thought everyday, am I not cleaning up correctly? Do I not do proper care? What am I doing wrong? So me being who I am, I thought.. let me educate myself on this. Some of us don't know &that's ohkay! Some of us do know &that's amazing!
I'm sharing because I want you to understand that I'm not speaking on something I haven't experienced myself &I need you to know it can be cared for naturally! You don't have to rely on harsh chemicals like Monistat or Summer's Eve soaps. I mean some of us have relied on soaps for PH balance. Some of us rely on Monistat for yeast infections but after awhile how many of us notice that it stops working for us bc our bodies become immune to it! I mean sometimes you use these things to treat one issue and end up with another.
Its NOT always about hygiene. Don't get me wrong.. it can be.
However, it can also be our birth control, our soap or even sex.
Don't mismanage your energy, time or vagina!

Natural Ways To Care For Your Lotus, Flower, Pum Pum, ETC!

BV, Yeast Infections Or UTI's

*Sex -
When it comes to sex some of us don't realize what unprotected sex or having multiple partners can do to our PH balance. It throws of good and bad bacteria. Some of you may argue that our vagina is constantly cleansing itself which is true, this is why we have discharge regularly. However if our bad bacteria over powers our good, infections arise.

*Coconut Oil - Giiiiiirl, when I say this stuff works wonders I MEAN THAT SH*T! I use coconut oil for everything in the book! EVERYTHING! Recently, I tried using it for some BV irritation &succeeded beyond what I needed it for! Not only did it sooth the irritation but it cleared up everything in TWO days!

*Milk Or Plain Greek Yogurt - Same concept.

*Hydrogen Peroxide - Outer Care Only! Helps sooth any itchiness or irritation.
How To :
-Listen babies, there is nothing wrong with sexual expression. However, you need to start practicing safer sex. Like condoms! Birth control prevents pregnancy not infections! &Then there is straight minimizing your sexual partners.

-Melt down some organic coconut oil in a jar/container. Soak a non scented tampon in the oil &insert it for at least 2/3 hours. Do this twice a day w a couple hours in between care. Id say do it for 3 days unless you feel you need it for a few more. Do this when you notice symptoms rising for better results.

-For hydrogen peroxide you can add a few drops to a cotton swab and dab it to the irritated area a few times a day.

* I chose coconut oil bc I already use it for everything else so I'm familiar w it. Think of it as the same concept as oil pulling. If you've never tried it, it's basically absorbing all the bad bacteria and when you remove the tampon you're pulling all that "nasty" out with it. Don't be afraid to look!
* Iv never tried milk or yogurt but I have friends who arent fans of coconut oil and have tried the alternatives &it's worked for them. Im sure you all know, no one vagina is the same as the next.
*Always wash your peri area BEFORE trying any of these remedies.

Picture
Ovarian Cysts, Infertility Or PH Balance.

*V Steams -
Steaming consist of sitting or squatting over a boiled blend of herbs and flowers such as; roses, mug wort, basil, lavender, nettle, wormwood, or rosemary.

*Tea Bags - Yep, you guessed it correctly. Its exactly what you think. A collected amount of different herbs mixed into a mesh tea bag small enough to place and remove later.

*Tampons
- Scented tampons are a girls enemy! Try organic tampons that you can insert yourself.

*Disclaimer: Avoid steaming while on your period or pregnant. Always consult with a medical professional when using essential oils, herbs, and steaming especially if you’re not aware of the effects.

How To :
-To V-Steam mix different herbs into a pot &boil them. You can sit or squat over it while its steaming. I'd recommend something you can place inside of your toilet for more comfort. The steam will provide relief, balance &sooth any inflammation.

-Tea bags are also mixed blends of herbs and flowers. You can make your own. Take a cup of hot boiling water and place your tea bag in it to steep. Id suggest mesh bags, not paper. Then put your tea bag in the refrigerator for 8-10 minutes.  Place the cold tea bag into your vagina and squeeze it to release the water. Do this two times everyday to treat inflammation.

-Trying different tampons isnt terrible but you should find one that works for you and try to stick with it. Organic Tampons are my personal favorite

*My recommended blend for both a V-Steam and your own tea bags would be ..
dried lavender - promotes menstrual flow (for irregular flows), calming properties, anti bacterial
dried rose pedals - eases menstrual pain, astringes heavy bleeding, anti-inflammatory
cinnamon sticks - pulls toxins
&dried nettle -
hormonal balance, gentle cleansing

Picture
Benefits Of Steaming, Tea Bags &Toxin Pulling:

Strengthens The Uterus
Tightens The Vagina
Rids The Womb Of Excess Waste, Fibroids &Cysts
Regulates Menstrual Cycle
Helps Woman Conceive
Helps Alleviate Vaginal Odor
Balances Hormones Levels

Its Officially Summer!
What better way is there to celebrate both Summer Solstice and International Yoga Day than the Sun Salutations!?
Take advantage of my break down of the Sun Salutations. This should be a flowing asana practice. I'd say your breath and having strong control in your movement is most important when practicing these poses.
Id recommend doing this flow in the morning before starting your day. Its a great way to awaken your body &get your blood flowing. Warm your body up with some routine stretches &then do 6 to 12 rounds of the Sun Salutations. Your body will love you and have beautiful energy for the day.
may the long time sun shine upon you
all love surround you
&the pure light within you
guide your way on
